Minotaur: Bull In A Labyrinth

A hybrid creature of Greek mythology the minotaur is a  half man half bull creature born of a union between Crete's queen Pasiphae and a large white bull. Pasiphae's husband Minos had promised to sacrifice the bull to honour the God Poseidon but fascinated by the bull's beauty Minos instead kept the bull as his own.

This angered Poseidon who then punished Minos by having Pasiphae fall in love with it. In her passion for the bull Pasiphae had a hollow wooden bull made so mating could be possible. This resulted in the birth of the minotaur she named Asterius.

As the beast aged and without a native food source the minotaur began consuming those around him. For these misdeeds Minos enclosed it within the confines of a maze. Interestingly the animal was still fed human flesh to sustain him throughout his confinement with young men and women from Athenia being sacrificed to satisfy Asterius's appetite.

Angered by the senseless sacrifices the minotaur would die at the hands of an Athenian prince named Theseus. Aided by the Crete princess Ariandae who advised him on how to navigate the labyrinth he was able to kill the beast and find his way back out after. On the prince's return to Athenia he then ascended the throne there.
